Yeah, I'm really hopeful Smith takes the Jesper Bratt path of development. His underlyings were trash his first year and have improved every year since to the point where he's one of their best players.
In your June 30 article you mentioned you expect the Devils to ultimately stay put and take Hughes at 4. Do you still think that is the most likely outcome? If not, what changed your mind?
Hughes/Eklund/Clarke but I honestly am high on all three. So long as they don’t take someone like Edvinsson while one or two of those guys are on the board, I’m good with it
I look at Tampa and they just can’t keep that team together. Not possible. Idc who they put on LTIR they need to shed cap.
I want Sergachev. He can be had with our first overall pick.
You add Sergachev with our newly added graves. And the D is figured out for the next few years.
I agree with Todd on his past article. I don’t like trading for a goalie. I’m pretty fixed on one of the goalies hitting FA. Unless Fluery can come over in a Graves type deal.
As for wingers. I don’t like a single winger on FA. Nothing in this class will help us get closer to a cup. If Parise wants to come for a year and reignite the devils culture that was here when he was captain, great. If Hoffman can be had at 2 years to help our power play gain momentum, great. Other then that I’m willing to give Boqvist, Mercer, foote, holtz, Clarke all the experience they need the next two years.
What about Hughes, Guenther, or Edvinsson. Those are the players that have been rumored more to the Devils (by Corey Pronman, who does talk to a lot of scouts).
Go get Jones and Laine in a bigger deal for the 4th.

I have Eklund and Clarke comfortably above Hughes.

Guenther 1, Hughes 2, Edvinsson shouldn't really be in the convo IMO.
