Maybe but Fitz’s last two trade deadlines have been abject failures and he has lost his pulse on this team. He should’ve recognized that the team needed another scorer back in December-January and he screwed it up. Last year he waited too long to fix the goaltending and move on from Ruff. He needs to be fired. A GM has to be smarter and way more aggressive than this. Again, fire Fitz! Grit is overrated - you can’t win if you can’t score!

So you would've rather him mortgage the future and completely over-pay for a likely rental piece that would only help marginally this year? Sure, he may have been able to get a better player now, but looking at all the other pieces that moved on deadline day I'm happy we didn't spend nearly as much as those other teams. Keeping our assets allows us to be more aggressive in the future and have more options on improving the team long-term instead of making moves that make the team slightly better now and much worse in the future.

If you truly think he didn't know about a need for more offense back in December/January, and wasn't checking in on some available players then I don't know what to tell you. The prices were too high.

People forget our window really has just opened and want to do anything they can to win now instead of trying to be a contender for years to come. Fitz has only made efficient/cheap moves that help now or paid up big for pieces that help long-term, and I wouldn't want it any other way.

Is it me or was this just an awful job by Tom Fitzgerald here?

Not the best showing but we don't know what the ask was for guys like Donato or O'Reilly, better to not empty the cupboard if jack is out till next season.
