Solid third pair signing. This team is much more competitive than the lineup we dressed last year. Should be able to play competent hockey and hopefully our young guys are able to take a step forward.

Thanks for the write up Todd. I like the signing to give the back-end stability. But Fitz has been talking and talking about being patient and waiting for special players from cap strapped teams. Looking around capfriendly, it seems like there are just to many teams in a crunch. I salivate at the idea of landing Cernak or even....wait for it...Sergachev. I’m starting to wonder if buying out Schneider had more to do with opening space up for another capstrapped offload, rather than just saving money short term. What do you think the lightning and these other teams are gonna do? It seems like they are really gonna have their backs to the wall come December.

yeah, I think some of these teams are just using the time they have and waiting for somebody to flinch. Maybe a team (not New Jersey) wants Sergachev but will eventually settle for a needed middle-6 forward like Tyler Johnson and a quality asset alongside.

I'm really interested to see what TB, NYI, and co. decide to do. Teams have time until they don't. It feels like hockey is still a while away but, honestly, it's possible *some* teams report to camp next month. Things are going to have to get sorted out.

I know we have lots of cap space but 3.6mil for bratt with his body of work is a massive overpayment. I’d think Mack gets a contract similar to George.

I agree this team needs to be tougher to play against. Any chance we try sign Matt Martin or player like that? I mean I don’t see anyone in the system that plays that kinda game.

I think he will get less money (or more term). Was just using as an example.

Martin will be heading back to NYI, I believe.

Yeah I think so too. Love to see how lou gets out of that mess. Any other bruisers out there you think would fit this team?

I don't know that I'd call him a bruiser, per se, but the kind of thing I could see NJ doing is bringing in a player like Corey Perry if some of the kids (let's say Janne Kuokkanen/Nick Merkley on the right side) don't play as well as the Devils hope in training camp.
