Hey Todd, do you have any data showing a correlation between point production and the quality of that player's hockey flow? It's obvious the long layoff has allowed hughes to maximize his flow game directly improving his game.

Covid has kept me off the ice most of 2020 but working from home gave me the opportunity to grow out the lettuce.

I'm curious how that analysis will carry over into my game. I imagine I can expect a 50% increase in my corsi for and these wings should propel me forward increasing my skating speed by 15%.

lmao I don't have any data but it has to be a thing!

Todd great write up. I followed you for a while on hockey buzz. No one but you saw Blackwood coming. You alluded to this above, but he has exceeded all expectations that you even had for him.

On hockey buzz yesterday there was a comment about shipping Tennyson out and getting butcher in. Is it just me or has Tennyson looked fantastic? I’m not sure if my eyes are playing tricks on me. But he has been solid. I was the first to be upset with butcher being scratched. But at this point I can’t see Tennyson sitting. On the bench I saw him coaching Smith. I think he is very good for Smith. Who sits when Vat is back, who is sitting to get Butcher in? I don’t think you can change things up until injuries or back to back occurs. My opinion.

My guess is Tennsyon will come out. I will say he has been better than I expected, but I still think the other five are either a) locks to play or; b) have out-performed him.

Yea i think he has stood out pinching down low in the O-zone as well. Definitely some mistakes, but solid. Just about the only one i haven't really seen make a mistake is Murray.

At what point to we have to think Zacha can’t replace Zajac and bring Travis back next season. McLeod provides more offense than Zacha at the moment.

I do think Zajac is still better than Zacha at 5v5

McLeod is 4th liner at best, he couldn’t even provide offense in the AHL.

If two guys who are supposed to produce at 1st line rates can’t bc of a center, they have major issues. If they are supposed to be so good, they should help elevate Zacha’s game. Even Devils Insider noted that Johnsson has been a black hole once he touches the puck.

I think a slower start that hasn't been talked about as much is Palmieri's. 3 games is not enough to freak out about a lack of production, but beyond that he's looked slow and pretty ineffective (at least to me). I'd be interested to see if the more advanced stats bear that out, and older guys may need a bit more time to get ramped up in this weird season, but its been the most worrying piece of the first few games.

I’m more curious about the D pairs. How have Kulikov and Tennyson been individually?

I really want Butcher and Vatanen in this lineup over them.

Murray-Subban

Smith-Severson

Butcher-Vatanen

Kulikov has been very good defensively. His impacts are awesome right now

Whats your suggestion for Butcher? He’s been arguably our most effective defenseman since he came into the league.

The only thing with the D pairs is that there really isn’t a defensive defensemen. Besides Smith, the one I have been impressed with most is Kulikov. Not sure whether or not Butcher is completely out of Lindy’s plans, but I am very interested to see what he does once we have everyone available

I’m curious to see how Ruff will manage the lines once he has Nico and Bratt back. Jack has shown that he has made major strides in his progression but does he fall to the second line once Nico is back? I’m also curious to see if Ruff puts Zacha, Bratt, and Gusev back together, they started to develop a lot of chemistry last year but how much has this extended period of time off the ice for Bratt effect that? A lot of big questions still to be answered about this team but liking what I have seen in a small sample size so far.

If Bratt-Zacha-Gusev find their chemistry from the end of last year you need to find a winger that can play with Johnsson-Nico, which might be Boqvist. It's weird to think given expectations at the start of this year but we might have 3 lines that are all dangerous. And as of right now the teams leading goal scorer would be on the fourth line in this scenario.

I’d rather not see wood in a fourth line role. I think his speed is something we need in our top 9
