I like Fleury and think he'd be relatively cheap to acquire. Vegas needs cap-space and has a clear 1a in Lehner. Also, depending on where the Devils stand come TDL, they can retain and flip him (I know we're all sick of being sellers but he'd be walking in the summer anyway).
I love Lehner but the length of the deal makes it not worth it for the team. Vegas sees him as the long term guy and would expect a package in return that reflects that.
As for realistic FAs: Reimer, Mrazek, Ullmark, Bernier interest me. Throw any one of them 4.5mx3 and I think they'd come here. Something about Dreidger worries me. Kind of get Scott Darling vibes from him, even though Dreidger has put up better numbers.
I like Ullmark or Bernier, but I’m not sold on Reimer or Mrazek. I agree that the term of Lehner’s deal is an issue, but I still think it’s worth looking into. Same for Fleury even though he’s a UFA. I think Dreidger should be the top target but I feel like Seattle might pick him up before any other team gets a chance.
Disagree - Lou’s “judgment” is one of the main reasons the Devils have been stuck in this mode for the last 9 years. He also didn’t think Lehner couldn’t maintain his performance with the islanders and Lehner has proven him wrong. Also it’s not like Lou has done much with the islanders’ roster - most of those players were already there. Trotz has been much more impactful on their recent success than Lou.
Lou brought in trotz so he gets credit for that. Lou won Gm of the year the last 2 years. Lou didn’t keep lehner because he has mental health issues, not because he didn’t think he was good. In Lou, I trust. Agree to disagree I guess.
For you or anyone to dump on someone because he has mental health issues is disgusting and embarrassing. Look at Lehner’s performance since he left - it’s pretty clear he’s done a good job of overcoming them. Also, Lou winning the gm this year is a joke - he wasn’t even the 3rd best gm this year. Zito in Florida was far more deserving. Lou sucked with the devils after that 2012 run between drafting and bringing in players - that is not up for debate.
Who’s dumping on him? It’s reality. He has issues. It would not be smart to spend 20 mil on someone that could flake at any time. Lou did not suck... ever. 2 of the best players in the league left. That’d be hard for any gm to handle. As far as draft picks, you can’t hit every time. He didn’t do that bad if you ask me.

It was not injury related. He just retired because he didn't want to play the game anymore.

I think Lou parted ways with lehner on the island for a reason and I trust lou’s judgement. I’d stay away from him.
