Great signing! Now, can he play between the pipes?

Another unrelated question: Nick Merkeley, Josh Jacobs and Colton White were all placed on waivers today. A.) Does that surprise you? and B.) What are the chances any of them are not picked up? I felt they all could be useful for depth this season or beyond, particularly Merkeley.

Merkley is the only guy with a real chance of being claimed, IMO, but I still think it is unlikely.

Thanks for the response Todd. Looking at the loooong list of players of waivers, is there anyone you think the Devils should take a chance on? Does the waiver process work like it does in baseball - if two teams claim a player, the team with the worse record gets the player?

I read somewhere recently that they do go in order starting with the worst teams.

hallelujah! I don't really mind that it took so long to sign him, even though the fanbase has been chomping at the bit. At this phase of the rebuild, I think it's essential to start the culture of players buying in, wanting to be here, and taking team friendly contracts. (It started with Hischier, and continues with Bratt and Blackwood). Maybe Fitz could have given him a bit more money to end this sooner, but thinking long term, I think Fitz did the right thing. Look at Tampa. Set the standard now.

totally off-subject question, but, is it true that Tampa could add Kucherov back in the playoffs and go over the cap then? Or do they still need to be under the cap when the playoffs start? Asking for a friend :)

Tampa Bay will be able to activate him

Thanks. I can’t believe that’s allowed. Doesn’t seem right.
