They have not officially announced their game group but – based on who played last time out – it’s safe to say the practice group we saw Friday will be taking the ice in Philadelphia.

Palat - Haula - Mercer
Willman - Tierney - Thompson
Bowers - Crisculo - Lazar

Siegenthaler - Hamilton
Hatakka - Smith
Vukojevic - Foote

FLYERS LINEUP

Furry-Couturier-Konecny
Brown-Laczynski-Atkinson
Lycksell-Gardner-Tuomaala
Allison-Cates

Defense: Ristolainen, Staal, Walker, Ginning, Attard, Andrae

GAME NOTES

  • Holtz scored in his preseason opener and was praised by Lindy Ruff for his play off puck and willingness to back track in the defensive zone. His reward appears to be another game alongside the Devils’ Swiss stars up front. I think the Devils view Dawson Mercer as a better stylistic fit on the 3rd line – and are enamoured with the Toffoli - Hughes - Bratt combo up top – so they really want to make things work with Holtz. Whether you thought he was great, good, or a mixed bag in his opener, this is the first time it’s really felt like the coaches are happy with his play and willing to give him a legitimate chance to succeed. It’s up to Holtz to take the ball and run with it. Last time out was a good start but there’s plenty to improve upon. Tonight is another chance to do just that.
