Here are a few New Jersey Devils notes to get you through another off-day:
Glass a key cog ⚙️
I liked the Cody Glass trade at the time it was made. I thought he’d bring some play driving, speed, and additional offense to a team that desperately needed all three things – particularly down the middle of the ice.
Even so, I didn’t think Glass would establish himself as such an impactful and important piece in the lineup. It’s not an exaggeration to say he has been one of the team’s best players over the last month.
The Devils have controlled 8.56% more of the expected goal share with Glass on the ice than without during 5v5 play. They have won those minutes by an 8-3 scoreline, giving him the best goal differential on the team.
He’s played an integral part in creating those goals, picking up five points along the way. His 5v5 rate of production (2.53 points per 60) leads all Devils since deadline day.
Glass has also managed an average Game Score of +0.85 per night, slotting him behind only Nico Hischier and Jesper Bratt on the Devils.
He has driven play, he has produced, and he has done a ton of little things to help the Devils with their zone exits and entries.
You can quibble with some of the moves Tom Fitzgerald has made dating back to the summer but the Glass trade is looking like a tidy piece of business.
Markstrom’s back on track 🛤️
