Ruff has done a good job with the Devils over the last couple of seasons – and he is being rewarded accordingly.

The New Jersey Devils took care of some housekeeping on Wednesday, signing head coach Lindy Ruff to a multi-year contract extension.
Ruff was just about to begin his final year under contract with the Devils. Now, he has the security he was looking for.
While it took longer to work out a new deal than I expected, Ruff sticking around felt inevitable.
The Devils wouldn’t have allowed Andrew Brunette – who always had his sights set on landing his next head coaching gig – to walk out the door if there was any question to who their coach would be moving forward. Heck, I don’t think Brunette would’ve wanted to.
Brunette leaving New Jersey for a job in Nashville was very telling that Ruff would be sticking around for a while. Deservedly so.
Ruff is not a perfect coach. Be it scratching Jonas Siegenthaler for Brendan Smith in a playoff game, or being a little too trigger happy with the lineup blender, there are certainly some things you can complain about and question with Ruff. But that would be the case with Brunette or anybody else behind the bench.
Every coach has his favorites. Every coach has his blindspots. All that matters is the good outweighs the bad. Ruff has proven that to be the case.
