The New Jersey Devils took care of some housekeeping Monday, signing restricted free agent winger Adam Beckman to a one-year, two-way contract extension.
Beckman will carry a $775,000 salary in the NHL and $125,0000 salary in Utica, with $150,000 total guaranteed.
That provides him some additional insurance if he doesn’t get into any NHL games. I don’t think that’ll be a problem though. Barring injury, I expect he gets a cup of coffee (perhaps two) with the big club at some point along the way.
Beckman’s been very productive at the AHL level over the past couple of seasons. He’s scored 43 goals across 104 games, which equates to a 30-goal pace over the course of a 72-game AHL season. Very solid production.
The goals have not translated to the NHL level, though. Beckman is goalless through 23 career games, 20 of which came over the last two years.
It isn’t necessarily due to a lack of opportunities. Beckman’s generated shots and scoring chances at a healthy rate, albeit over a limited sample.
