A few New Jersey Devils notes on this off-day:
Bratt is hitting a new gear
If there is a player in the league performing at a higher level than Jesper Bratt right now – especially at 5v5 – I’m not sure who it is.
The 24-year-old winger has been mind-numbingly good across the board to start the campaign.
Of the 200 forwards who’ve logged at least 100 minutes at 5v5, Bratt leads the league in Corsi (67.78%), on-ice goals for (11), and sits 3rd in terms expected goal share (72.07%).
Bratt has picked up a point on all 11 of those goals, with 10 of them being primary. For perspective of what a threat No. 63 has been, no other player in the NHL has double digit points at 5v5; let alone double digit primary points.
Bratt also leads the league in average Game Score, which is somewhat of a catch-all stat used to try and measure the value a player is bringing on a nightly basis.
He has found the scoresheet in every single game he has played. Digging a little deeper, his shot contribution numbers are also up quite a bit. Last season Bratt averaged 6.66 per at 5v5. This year he is at 8.67 through six tracked games.
He has been an absolute force.
