New Jersey Devils linked to Martin Necas
Tom Fitzgerald is never one to shy away from a big move. But could there actually be a trade match between the two division foes?

Tom Fitzgerald is never shy of making a big trade.
He’s pulled the trigger on plenty over the past year and change, from acquiring 30-goal scorer Tyler Toffoli, 40-goal scorer Timo Meier, and most recently a high-end starter and former Vezina runner-up in Jacob Markstrom.
Armed with more than $15 million in cap space, a solid prospect pool, and the 10th overall pick in Friday’s draft, Fitzgerald still has the resources to make noise.
And it seems like he intends to do just that.
There has been a lot of smoke surrounding the Devils and defenseman Brett Pesce, who is slated to become an unrestricted free agent in just a few days. As I outlined earlier in the week, it’s easy to understand their rumored interest.
While Pesce would eat a healthy chunk of the available space, the Devils could get ~75% of it back if they were to trade John Marino.
It’s possible the Devils could make two more sizeable additions – one on defense (Pesce?) and one up front.
The latest and greatest has the Devils linked to another (current) piece of Carolina Hurricanes property in Martin Necas.
The 25-year-old winger is just a year removed from a 71-point season. After a bit of a down year in which frustration continued to grow re: his usage, he’s looking for a fresh start where he can play a bigger role and get paid accordingly.
