The 2023 NHL trade deadline is quickly approaching and the New Jersey Devils figure to be active.
At or near the top of their to-do list – or wish list, if you will – is adding another scoring winger to the organization.
Tom Fitzgerald has been constant in his pursuit of doing so, making plays – to varying degrees – for Matthew Tkachuk, Johnny Gaudreau, Kevin Fiala, Vladimir Tarasenko, Timo Meier, and Timo Meier (again), among others, over the last eight months.
With the Devils struggling to find a top-6 combination that puts Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes in the best position to succeed, it’s not hard to see why the Devils are so adamant about landing another big fish on the wing.
The latest and greatest in the rumor mill has the Devils linked to a familiar name in Vancouver Canucks winger Brock Boeser.
Boeser’s agent has been working with the team to help facilitate a change of scenery and the Devils are among the sides he has spoken to, according to Ben Kuzma of The Province. Excerpt below:
“Boeser’s name has been linked to many trade destinations, but the Devils and Wild make the most sense. His agent, Ben Hankinson, told Postmedia on Monday he continues to help the Canucks hockey operations department find a destination and that he has talked to New Jersey and Minnesota.”
Boeser is a flashy name who has scored 29 goals per 82 games since entering the NHL. As a shoot-first winger capable of putting the puck in the net at a healthy rate, it’s easy to see why the Devils could be enticed about the idea of pairing him with Hughes (or Hischier).
Unfortunately, there are probably more cons than pros with regards to Boeser and his game.
