A few notes to get you set for New Jersey vs. Washington:
High-danger heater 🔥
Jacob Markstrom led all NHL goaltenders (30+ starts) in high-danger save percentage last season, stopping exactly 85% of such shots.
He’s picked up where he left off with the Devils, sporting an .857 HDSV% through his first five starts in New Jersey.
If the Devils are to pick up another win against a divisional opponent in the Capitals, they’re going to need Markstrom’s high-danger prowess to continue.
The new-look Capitals have been a much more potent offensive team in the early going. They’ve averaged 13.33 high-danger chances per 60 across all situations, which is the 8th highest mark in the league.
For perspective, only the Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs bested that mark last season. We’re still dealing with small samples but that should give you an idea of how threatening the Capitals have been thus far.
Jacob Markstrom is likely going to face a healthy dose of Grade A looks in this one. The Devils need him to be good.
