A few notes to get you set for tonight’s game between the New Jersey Devils and Buffalo Sabres:
Turning a corner
Dougie Hamilton has just one point over his last 12 games and has scored only once since the beginning of March. Not ideal! There are, however, signs that Hamilton is starting to turn a corner with his play.
We all know shooting is a big part of Hamilton’s DNA. He is beginning to generate shots and chances at the rate you’d expect, giving reason to believe he’s due for an offensive outburst.
Hamilton actually leads the Devils in shot attempts and shots on goal over the last 12 games. It’s not a quantity over quality thing, either. Nico Hischier and Jesper Bratt – two bonafide top line caliber forwards – are the only two players on the roster with more scoring chances during that time.
Hamilton is showing a pulse and he now finds himself in a mouth watering matchup against the Sabres. They have struggled to defend against defensemen all season long, with only three teams allowing more shots and goals to blueliners this year.
Hamilton has enjoyed success against Buffalo this season, combining for 15 shot attempts, eight shots on goal, and points in each of the two meetings.
Look for Hamilton to have another productive night.
