Luke Hughes and New Jersey Devils are back in action Monday night playing host to Quinn Hughes and the Vancouver Canucks. Here are a few notes to get you set for the game:
The Hughes Bowl 🏆
Jack Hughes’ season-ending shoulder injury definitely takes some of the juice out of this matchup but watching the two defensemen duke it out should still be exciting.
Luke Hughes has taken his game up a notch offensively without his brother (and Dougie Hamilton), producing nine points over his last nine games.
This includes multi-point performances against playoff-bound teams like the Dallas Stars and Ottawa Senators.
Hughes has averaged well over 24 minutes per game and logged 26+ minutes on three occasions.
Meanwhile, Quinn Hughes enters play riding a six-game point streak. He has logged 28+ minutes in four of those contests.
With the Canucks – even more so than the Devils – in desperate of every possible point they can collect, they are running Hughes into the ground; and he’s handling it damn well.
Given how many minutes Quinn and Luke chew up, and their almost unmatched ability to create offense from the backend, these two should factor in heavily to the end result of this game.
