Expect an early response
Lindy Ruff was not exactly pleased with the Devils’ effort last time out; nor should he have been.
The Devils no-showed in the 1st period (again) and were very sloppy with the puck. After digging themselves out of the 3-0 hole, they reverted back to what we saw prior and gifted the Capitals a win.
Ruff no doubt harped on the importance of a better start, and better puck management, in the lead up to this game.

It’s a good matchup for them to do just that. Only six teams have conceded more 1st period goals than the Sabres thus far.
That’s not necessarily surprising when looking at the numbers. The Sabres’ xG share of 45% puts them in the bottom tier of the league and their goaltending is hit and miss. That’s a good recipe for opposing offenses to do damage.
I think the Devils will start the party early on in this game.
