A few notes to get you set for New Jersey vs Florida:
Firewagon hockey
If you like high-event hockey, you should be in for a treat tonight.
The Devils and Panthers are legitimately two of the highest pace teams in the NHL. With each side possessing so much top-end talent, neither will shy away from pushing the envelope if and when opponents wish to open things up.
New Jersey is perhaps a little more cautious about forcing the issue – they’re much better equipped to lean on their defensive personnel when necessary – but they can run-and-gun with the best of ‘em.
The Panthers rank 2nd in the NHL in terms of xG generation at 5v5. The Devils are right on their heels in 3rd place.
While the Devils are much more stable without the puck, their offensive numbers are so good that they still crack the top-5 when looking at combined xG pace.
These teams met three times in the calendar year 2022. Each game featured no fewer than six goals and 25 were scored in aggregate (8.33 per).
I expect we’re going to see plenty of fireworks again in this one. There is simply too much talent on the ice and neither team takes its foot off the gas while leading (both rank top-5 in xGF/60).
Buckle up; it’s going to be a fun ride in Florida.
