A few notes to get you set for tonight’s game between the New Jersey Devils and Calgary Flames:
A response from Nico
Nico Daws did not have his fastball on Tuesday night. He conceded four goals on just 21 shots in Vancouver and some of them were rather ugly. That’s why his GSAE sat at -2.42 before Lindy Ruff ultimately pulled Daws from the game.
Ruff cleared noticed Daws was not playing at the necessary standard and wanted to give him as much rest as possible so he could get a shot at redemption.
To this point, Daws has proven quite adept at bouncing back from poor showings. Daws has been credited with five losses this season. His save percentages in the four games that have followed thus far:
.974 vs Pittsburgh (W)
.906 vs NY Rangers (L)
.905 vs St. Louis (W)
.971 vs Anaheim (W)
So, Daws is 3-1-0 following up a loss and has posted a save percentage at least slightly above league average in each appearance.
The Devils need that to be the case if they’re going to have any shot of winning this game. Calgary has controlled better than 60% of the high-danger chances over their last 10 home dates and rank top-6 in shot, expected goal, and goal generation on home soil this season.
Daws is going to see a lot of rubber; especially if Jonas Siegenthaler is unable to play. He has to be good.
