The New Jersey Devils and Buffalo Sabres will both look to end mini-losing streaks when they square off Wednesday night.
Here are a few notes to get you set for the game:
Finish plays off 🥅
The Sabres are a solid team but it’s not because of their defense. They have allowed 5v5 expected goals at the 10th highest rate this season and things are not getting any better.
In fact, they ranked 29th in expected goals allowed over their final 10 games before the break. They were struggling.
All those chances didn’t translate to a ton of goals against but that was due to .930 goaltending masking a lot of mistakes. Alex Lyon and UPL aren’t going to sustain those numbers forever.
This is a matchup where the Devils should be able to generate more than their fair share of scoring opportunities.
Given the success a lot of their most dangerous players enjoyed during the Olympics, confidence shouldn’t be an issue.
One would hope they can help translate that to some better results offensively. What we saw prior to the break was painful.
