Remember when Dawson Mercer couldn’t generate a shot, let alone find the scoresheet, at 5v5? Those days have quickly vanished.

Mercer has come out of an ice cold spell and is suddenly scorching hot. He has recorded five points, and 12 shots on goal, over the last three games while finding the scoresheet in all three.

There’s every reason to believe Mercer can keep building on his recent play, and stay hot, against the Montreal Canadiens.

The Canadiens being the Canadiens – a rebuilding team seemingly missing half of its regulars – is obviously a reason for that. So is the fact he’ll be in the top-6 alongside Nico Hischier.

Although Mercer has been at his best alongside Hughes, he has also been extremely efficient alongside New Jersey’s other star center. Mercer has averaged 2.67 points per 60 while riding shotgun with Hischier.

For perspective of how impressive that is, only 16 players league-wide have averaged more than the 2.67 points per 60 Mercer has managed alongside Hischier.

Although the sample size is smaller in Mercer’s case, the numbers remain impressive nonetheless.

Mercer is expected to remain on a line with Hischier tonight so don’t be surprised if he puts forth another productive outing.
