The New Jersey Devils will attempt to snap their four-game losing streak at home against the Boston Bruins.
Here are a few notes to get you set for the game:
Coming to life offensively
The Devils have fallen flat on their face a few times recently in spots you’d circle as plus-matchups to get back on track. They have an opportunity to buck that trend Tuesday night against Boston.
While the general perception is that Boston is a stingy team and a tough side to play against, that’s been very far from reality this season – even more so of late.
The Bruins have given up shots, scoring chances, and goals at a higher rate than every team in the league since the calendar flipped.
Only the San Jose Sharks – by a whopping 0.01 – have allowed expected goals at a higher rate this month. Yes, the Bruins have been that bad defensively.
Although their underlyings have reached a new low of late, their inability to keep the puck out of their net is nothing new. They’ve bled goals all season, especially when playing on the road.
Believe it or not, they have conceded goals at a higher clip than anybody on the road. The company they’re keeping in the basement is alarming, to say the least.
This is a matchup the Devils should be able to take advantage of. I know their lines are funky. I know the team isn’t playing with a lot of juice. I know they’ve come up lame time after time of late.
But even underwhelming offensive teams like the Kraken, Islanders, and Senators have been able to put up 5+ on the Bruins in recent weeks.
The Devils have too much high-end talent to be this lifeless forever; my guess is they start to snap out of it tonight.
