G42 New Jersey Devils @ Anaheim Ducks: Make it three

The Devils have won back-to-back games and now have a mouthwatering matchup against the league's worst defensive team.

A few notes to get you set for Devils vs Ducks:

Jack Hughes SZN

To say Jack Hughes is scorching hot right now would be an understatement. He has found the back of the net 19 times over the past 21 games and now ranks 8th in the NHL in goals (1st at 5v5) as a result.

What’s crazy is this isn’t just a shooting bender. Hughes has been generating a ridiculous amount of shot and chance volume.

Take the last 10 games, for example. Hughes has attempted 91 shots (2nd most in the NHL) and piled up a league-leading 62 shots on target. 62!

While on a per game basis Hughes obviously won’t continue generating six shots – and a goal – over a long period of time, there is every reason to believe Hughes will continue running hot in this game.

The Anaheim Ducks rank dead last in 5v5 shot suppression this season. If we isolate the last 10 to get a better indication of their current form, the results remain the same. Anaheim also takes penalties in bunches and struggles mightily to kill them off.

If that’s not enough to get you excited about what Hughes can do in this spot, pull up a chair and stay a while. I have more!

The Ducks concede a league-leading 15.24 shots per game to the center position, which ranks dead last.

For perspective of just how bad the Ducks are at protecting the middle of the ice, and keeping team’s top pivots in check, the next closest team allows 12.45 shots per game to centers. The Ducks are lapping the field here.

Unless Hughes is having a bit too much fun on the California road trip, which I suppose is possible, he should have a field day against this Ducks team.
