G36 New Jersey Devils vs Pittsburgh Penguins: Stop the bleeding

The Devils have shaken up the lines in effort to jumpstart the offense and get back on track. Will it pay off?

A few notes to get you set for New Jersey vs Pittsburgh:

An exploitable defense

The Pittsburgh Penguins have historically been a very structured and sound defensive team under Mike Sullivan. We are not seeing that right now.

Without Jeff Petry, and now Kris Letang as well, the Penguins have given up a lot defensively. A lot.

In fact, only the Anaheim Ducks have conceded shots at a higher rate than the Penguins over the last 10 games.

If the Devils are generating shots in bulk against a team like the Boston Bruins, the volume should certainly be there against this vulnerable Penguins team.

As much as everyone believes the Devils lack finishing ability, and need more talent in that area, they still have a handful of truly dangerous and dynamic forwards. They’re not going to continue to get brick walled by anyone and everyone on a nightly basis.

Sooner or later, the pucks are going to start to go again for a Devils team that – despite recent finishing struggles – ranks top-10 in goals per game.

This just might be the spot.

Reunited and it feels so good
