A few notes to get you set for New Jersey vs. Nashville:
Exception to the rule
There aren’t many bright spots on this Predators team. The play of the Filip Forsberg, Ryan O’Reilly, Gustav Nyquist line – at least when together – is one of the lone exceptions.
They were lights out a season ago and have picked up where they left off analytically. The Predators have controlled over 60% of the shot attempts, chances, high-danger opportunities, and expected goals share with this trio on the ice.
While their fantastic metrics have yet to translate into great results, they’ve proven capable in the past. They are certainly a threat.
After that? There isn’t much. Steven Stamkos and Jonathan Marchessault are being asked to spearhead their own lines without much help.
It’s not exactly going well, with Marchessault sitting at four goals while Stamkos is on pace for only 43 points.
This is a long-winded way of saying if the Devils can do some damage control against Nashville’s top line, there isn’t much they have to worry about.
