The New Jersey Devils are in Colorado looking to sweep a home-and-home against the Avalanche.

Here are a few notes to get you set for the game:

Weather the storm 🏔️

The Avalanche have dropped four consecutive games. Three of those losses came in extra time and all were decided by just one goal.

With an extra bounce here and there, their record could be very similar to New Jersey’s. Instead, they’re 5-1-4.

Make no mistake, though. The Avs are an absolute powerhouse of a team and a four-game losing skid is not going to sit well.

I expect them to come out gangbusters in this one and try to completely overwhelm a Devils team playing on the road at altitude.

They’ll look to get downhill, deploy their stars in advantageous matchups, and try to skate the Devils out of the building early.

Colorado has done a good job of getting on the board early this season, ranking top-10 in 1st period goals.

The Devils have to be ready for the storm that’s coming. They will no doubt be forced to spend plenty of time on their heels early and, honestly, that’s fine.

What’s key is managing the puck, being smart, and ensuring they don’t feed the beast and allow things to snowball.

If the Devils get careless with the puck in their own zone or take lazy penalties, they could be out of this game before it really gets going.
