@todd. I’ll man up and own I was incorrect. I was trying to find the post to give you props. You communicated weeks back that Zajac could potentially be moved and I said absolutely not. I have to say it’s bitter sweet. Love what he has done for us. True professional. Will always be one of my favorites due to his compete level, even when the talent was lingering. I think he will be fantastic under the Barry Trotz system. Truly think he will be the bigger post season story than Palmeri. Remember, Travis performs in the post season. 2012 he had some huge plays for us. An OT winner I will never forget against FL. I knew after that goal we would go on to win the series. Love the man. Happy for him and am now going hard for the isles to win the cup!!

I also read that the conditional fourth becomes a third if the isles make it to the finals, not sure how accurate that is. They do seem to have the depth to make it to the finals now. Getting a 1st and a 3rd for 2 aging players is not bad in my book

Couldn't agree with you more Todd, wish more people would understand the devils got a 1st round pick for 2 players who weren't coming back and that retaining salary for a half year means absolutely nothing.

Curious to see if Fitz holds onto the pick or tries to use it to get a NHL ready player from a cap strapped team before either the expansion draft or nhl draft. Any thoughts on which team/players could be available?

I think Zajac comes back. I can't see him playing for another team at this point in his career. Especially since he's been here his entire career. But I see what you mean and agree.

I’m very optimistic they use one of these first to get an nhl ready player due to the flat cap

The two players are throw-aways, so they traded Palms and Zajac for a pick that'll be between 27-32 in a year where they've barely seen any prospects play due to covid.

This is a bummer, they obviously weren't going to get some big haul, but it seems like a very low return for two guys who are going to help the Islanders in the playoffs. if Zajac doesn't come back on a reasonable deal next year I really hate this trade.

I didn’t want bellows and I’m guessing Lou wasn’t giving up any good prospects with the first. Would rather a straight up 3rd as opposed to the conditional but oh well. The players are depth guys for exposure to Seattle. Maybe Greer maybe has a few years in bingo. All in all disappointing but not horrible. I’ll give it a C+

like the move. could potentially use the first to trade for an established player in the offseason based on salary cap crunches or expansion issues other teams face.

if you trust your scouts you should be able to get guys that normally would not have fallen due to Covid screwing up schedules and leagues

Woudlnt it have been better to get a first round pick in 2022 or 23 and more other assets since that value is lower than 2021 first rounder. Deeper drafts in those years and would allow to better build the long term dynasty. Like the avs.
