And so continues the trend of teams making some big moves (coach/exec firings) near the end of the season. Any reason why there’s been so many of those this year? Also, who would be your ideal President/GM duo for the Devils? I’d love to see Shanahan and Mehta myself.
I don’t know if this counts for anything, and I think it’s a simple thought, but maybe there’s something to it. After the Vegas move, I thought that the Devils should do something quick before their potential candidate(s) disappeared. When the Islanders made their move, it started to make even more sense to me. Maybe ownership is thinking the same way? I know many people would have liked to see Pete Deboer back here, and I wouldn’t have objected at all with his track record, but as we saw, he was scooped up pretty quickly.
I think there are some good ones and some bad ones. I’d be more inclined to try out someone like Spezza who has been in the hip pocket of a forward thinking mind like Dubas for years than an old school type like Pronger.

Am I the only one who doesn’t like the idea of Shanahan? I don’t want him anywhere near this team.
Todd: any opinions or biases regarding if former players are better suited for GM role vs coach role in leading teams?
