A few notes following New Jersey vs. Anaheim:
Jack is back 🔥
Is it safe to say Jack Hughes is back? I think it is! After a quiet start to the season, in which his micro-stats reflected his decline in point production, No. 86 has started to look more like his usual self.
He’s dominating the puck, he’s effortlessly dancing around the entire offensive zone, and he’s making things happen every time he steps on the ice.
He only had one point in the blowout victory over Anaheim but it certainly wasn’t for a lack of opportunity. Hughes piled up 11 primary shot contributions during 5v5 play alone, which led the team.
The Devils controlled 71% of the expected goal share and out-chanced the Ducks 10-3 in his minutes.
Across all situations, Hughes also led the Devils in high-danger chances and expected goals. He was very much on.
Hughes has now piled up double-digit shot contributions at 5v5 in two of the past three games, over which time he’s produced 37 in total. That’s more than 12 per game.
This time last week Hughes’ season average sat at 7.98 – well below what we’ve grown accustomed to.
If Jack continues to play as he has of late, I have little doubt he can take things up a notch and produce at a 100+ point pace.
Noesen went Duck hunting 🦆
