Here are a few observations from New Jersey’s blowout win over New York:
Jack Hughes stole the show 📺
No. 86 once again embarrassed the Devils’ biggest rival – but it had nothing to do with trying to show anyone up on a breakaway.
Jack Hughes was front and center from start to finish, completely exposing New York’s struggling defense and doing whatever he wanted each time over the boards.
Hughes did a little of everything against the Rangers. He showed deft hands in tight, tipping a Luke Hughes shot and quickly banging in his own rebound.
He put his much improved shot to use, beating one of the league’s best netminders from range after roaming his way around the offensive zone. He also assisted on Dougie Hamilton’s power play goal.
Hughes registered three points in the game and, honestly, there easily could’ve been a couple more.
He led all players with 12 shot attempts, nine scoring chances, and eight shots on target. A handful of them came right around the paint as well.
Not to mention, he had a clear cut breakaway in the 1st period. Shame on Hughes for feeling he might need an unexpected deke to beat someone who could command the most lucrative contract his position has ever seen. Unbelievable!
Based on the performance Hughes put forth Monday NIght, I don’t think anyone should be too concerned he skipped the morning skate. He’s clearly just fine.
