The 2024 NHL Entry Draft is just a month away. No, seriously.
While there’s always a possibility the New Jersey Devils find a trade they like, and send the 10th overall pick to a new home, the reality is high draft picks don’t change hands all that often.
Until the pick is traded, if ever, I’m going to dive into prospects the Devils could or should select.
I started the fun a couple of weeks ago by breaking down one of Tij Iginla’s games.
This time around I’ll be taking a closer look at Cole Eiserman and his January 20th performance against the Chicago Steel.
As always, thanks to ProspectShifts for the great shift-by-shift videos.
The good
Offense is the name of the game for Eiserman. While scoring goals at a prolific rate is what he’s most known for, he can make some crafty passes as well. On one of his very first shifts (2:35), he accepted a pass just inside the offensive zone and within a moment’s notice was able to thread the needle through a wave of Steel players to send his teammates on a 2-on-0 from the hashmarks in.
The backdoor pass to follow wasn’t received and nothing came of the rush as a result but a slick seam feed from Eiserman easily could’ve – and probably should have – led to a goal. He didn’t even end up with a shot assist on the play; tough life!
Like most goal scorers, Eiserman has a great nose for the net and a knack for finding ways to make himself available. In this sequence (4:35), he lined up at LW off the faceoff, skated behind the right defender and past the left defender who was engaged at net front, making himself available for a Grade A scoring chance on the doorstep.
